Farners' Markets in Florida
Bauernmärkte sind in ganz Florida ein alltäglicher Anblick: Samstags und sonntags säumen lange Reihen von Ständen große Plätze, und als Veganer zog mich die Fülle der dort angebotenen Erzeugnisse in ihren Bann – die man auch in zubereiteten Gerichten probieren konnte.
Man trifft interessante Menschen, und die Geschichten darüber, wie sie ihr Gemüse, ihr Obst und ihren Salat anbauen, sind faszinierend. Das Engagement einiger dieser Anbieter für den ökologischen Landbau ist für mich ebenfalls inspirierend.

Lyrics:
Saturday in Florida
I head for the square
Long rows of stalls
Fruit piled up there
Tomatoes like jewels
Greens still wet with rain
I taste one peach
And I’m back again
You hand me a sample
I hand you a smile
You say how you grew it
The patient old style
No rush, no shortcut
Just sun and a plan
That kind of faith
You can hold in your hand
Farmers’ markets in Florida
I keep coming back
Farmers’ markets in Florida
On the weekend track
Fresh off the soil
Straight to my plate
(come on, come on)
Farmers’ markets in Florida
That’s my kind of day
I meet a woman
With basil in her cart
A man with cucumbers
Proud as art
He tells me the story
Behind every row
How the roots take time
And the good things grow
I love the talk
I love the care
Organic hands
And open air
The lettuce, the mango
The herbs in the sun
Every little table
Says work well done
Farmers’ markets in Florida
I keep coming back
Farmers’ markets in Florida
On the weekend track
Fresh off the soil
Straight to my plate
(come on, come on)
Farmers’ markets in Florida
That’s my kind of day
Sunday morning
I slow my pace
Paper bag full
And a happy face
If you ask me where
To take me in town
I know the answer
And I say it loud
Farmers’ markets in Florida
I keep coming back
Farmers’ markets in Florida
On the weekend track
Fresh off the soil
Straight to my plate
(come on, come on)
Farmers’ markets in Florida
That’s my kind of day
